Nanoose
“A nature lover’s community”
Location
Nanoose is located on the sheltered eastern shore of Vancouver Island, just 26 km (16 miles) north of Nanaimo. A truly rural coastal community, Nanoose is primarily residential with few urban amenities of its own, but a short drive will bring you to the larger centers of Nanaimo to the south or Parksville to the north.
About Nanoose
The Nanoose peninsula is a nature lover’s community, with beautiful properties and many high end homes. The landscape of the area offers a variety of coves, hidden beaches, stunning rock formations and rare arbutus trees.
Protected from Pacific weather systems by the range of mountains which run the length of Vancouver Island, and further moderated by the Strait of Georgia, Nanoose Bay is blessed with one of the mildest climates in Canada. In fact, the area is so protected and the weather so mild that many birds overwinter in Nanoose or rejuvenate here before migrating.
Recreation
Fairwinds Schooner Cove Marina is located on the coastline of the Nanoose Peninsula and offers docking for vessels up to 150 feet. Residents here enjoy kayaking, boating, fishing and beachcombing.
Jedediah Island, now a provincial park, is easily accessible from Nanoose Bay. A small, relatively untouched gulf island, Jedediah Island is famous both for its beauty and for its wild goats, reportedly left by the Spanish centuries ago.
Nanoose is also home to the spectacular Fairwinds Golf Course. With its lush natural setting, panoramic ocean views and abundant wildlife, Fairwinds Golf and Country Club is one of Western Canada's finest golf courses.
